Computer Access Requirements
Students must have daily access to a computer. If you don’t have frequent access, online learning might not be for you.
Not only will you need access to a computer, but you will also be required to log into the Internet. Almost all computers now come with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) program like AOL or Earthlink already installed. If you haven't already subscribed to an ISP, you will want to do so. DSL or Broadband internet service is highly recommended.
.
Hardware Requirements
You can be successful in online learning without owning your own computer as long as you can meet the access requirements above. Public library or college lab computers usually have sufficient software and hardware to support your online learning needs.
If you decide to use your own computer, it must be capable of running a moderately recent operating system, such as Windows 2000 or later, Mac OS X or later, and Linux 2.6 and later. The computer must be capable of connecting to the Internet.
.
Software Requirements
Any modern operating system that can run a web browser and basic word processing software is acceptable, such as Windows 2000 and later, or Mac OS X. Any standard suite of office applications will be adequate. Free applications of this sort can be found at
www.openoffice.org or
docs.google.com.
.
Internet Browser Requirements
Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer are our preferred Internet browsers. Safari may have small limitations in functionality, but it is suitable. It is also a good idea to download several “plug-ins.” Plug-ins are software programs, usually available for free, that extend the capabilities of your browser. For example, some plug-ins allow you to play audio or view video clips from within your browser.
.
Some of the plug-ins you might need are:
Adobe Reader - This allows you to read pdf (portable document format) files.
Adobe Flash Player
Quicktime - This is one of the more popular multimedia players available on the Internet.
Skype - All Nations Seminary main online communication tool
.
E-mail
E-mail will be one of the primary modes of communication used for online courses offered by All Nations Anglican Seminary. You will receive an All Nations Seminary e-mail address and you are required to regularly check this e-mail account or forward it to another active e-mail account.
